New State Brewing Company is an Appalachian rooted beer brand launching in 2026, inspired by the region’s brewing heritage and brewed for everyday enjoyment. Our flagship beer, 1863 Heritage Lager, draws from West Virginia’s role in Appalachian brewing history and reflects a simpler way of making beer that's stood the test of time.
Our Story
New State Brewing Company started with a simple idea: make one good beer and make it right. We’re putting our time and attention into 1863 Heritage Lager, brewing it the way it should be brewed, based on the Appalachian lager traditions that came before us.

Those traditions go back generations. They were shaped by working people and built around beer that was practical, drinkable, and meant to be shared after a long day. Over time, much of that history was pushed aside. We believe it’s worth bringing back, not as nostalgia, but as everyday beer people still love to drink.

As we grow, we want to do this the right way. That means working toward sourcing ingredients from Appalachian farmers, supporting the communities where we live and work, and building something we’re proud to be part of, not just as a business, but as neighbors.

1863 Heritage Lager is born in 1863, brewed for today. Inspired by West Virginia’s role in Appalachian brewing history, it’s a cold, clean, crisp lager made to be easy drinking and familiar, whether it’s your first beer or your last.
Appalachian Brewing Heritage
Brewing in Appalachia was shaped by working people, many of them German immigrants, who brought old world lager traditions with them and brewed beer the practical straightforward way. It was cold cellars, simple ingredients, and beer made to be easy to drink and earned at the end of a long day. Much of that history was lost over time, but those traditions still matter today.
