1863 Heritage Lager
1863 Heritage Lager is the first beer we've put our name on. It's a cold, clean lager rooted in Appalachian brewing heritage. We make it the right way, based on traditions that have been around since West Virginia became a state. It’s just a well made beer meant to be shared when the work is done, around the campfire with friends or at your favorite local watering hole.
Why 1863
The name 1863 marks the year West Virginia became a state, but more importantly, it points to a time when lager brewing was part of everyday life in the Appalachian region. In developing this beer, we spent time researching and working to recreate the kind of lager that would have been brewed then, using modern methods and authentic ingredients to make it something people still enjoy drinking today.
The Beer
1863 Heritage Lager was developed by researching and recreating the kind of lager that would have been brewed in the region around the time West Virginia became a state. We looked at historical recipes, methods, and ingredients, then brewed the beer the way it would have been made then, using modern equipment to do it consistently and well.
The result is a cold, clean, crisp lager that’s balanced, drinkable, and familiar. It’s the kind of beer people enjoyed then for the same reason people enjoy it now: because it’s good beer worth drinking
